Lone Star Ember is a Houston, Texas-based independent music collective blending raw storytelling, heartfelt Texas grit, and innovative AI-assisted production. Founded by Army veteran John Ray Crawford (Houston, TX), the project features Crawford on guitar alongside gifted guitarist Christopher Lee Garcia on select tracks, with Nixie Ember providing the raspy vocals creating a dynamic that results in original, authentic soundscapes rooted in live instrumentation and assisted by AI for enhancement where needed (background vocals and noises, steel drums, etc.)

From high-energy country and gospel anthems to Alt Rock and introspective indie pop, folk and genre-blending gems, Lone Star Ember delivers songs that feel like open-road drives—defiant, emotional, and real. Fiercely independent and always evolving.

Nixie Ember is the bold, heartfelt voice and creative spark behind many of our favorite tracks. A queer indie artist and digital advocate, she crafts lo-fi bedroom indie, sapphic lullabies, conscious reggae, and emotional anthems that speak directly to queer joy, mental health recovery, and the girls who feel everything deeply.

With original lyrics and melodies that hit straight to the soul, Nixie brings vulnerability, strength, and unfiltered authenticity to every collaboration. Whether she’s delivering tender country ballads or empowering bops, her energy lights up the music.

John Ray Crawford (Houston, TX) is the founder, chief songwriter, publisher, and CEO of Lone Star Ember Music. An Army veteran with deep Texas roots, he pours real-life wisdom, heart, and grit into every original lyric and melody. Crawford handles creative direction, production, and publishing while playing guitar on a few of our tracks alongside for hire works guitarist Christopher Lee Garcia.

Blending traditional acoustic craftsmanship with modern tools (including AI assisted collaboration), John drives the project forward with authentic Texas storytelling and a commitment to independent music.
